Product Summary of Cadmium
Cadmium is a naturally occurring element, first discovered in 1817 as a by product of the refining of zinc. It exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion, high levels of electrical and thermal conductivities and has a low melting point. It has found use in pigments, stabilisers in plastics and in nickel cadmium batteries. However, it is a rather toxic metal, being grouped in with other heavy metals such as lead and as a result, recycling is much more closely controlled.
Characteristics of Cadmium include:
- Excellent corrosion resistance
- Superb electrical conductivity
- High thermal conductivity
- Toxic
